Essential Kitchen Gear
If you're looking to stock your kitchen, these are the tools—the appliances, cookware, and gadgets—that we rely on for my daily meal preparation.
Instant Pots Make Cooking Easy
If anything could surpass our love of the slow cooker, it's the Instant Pot! It's a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, sauté-r, steamer, and warmer, all in one. The models below represent three different price points; if you can spend a little more, you'll get additional preset programs and the ability to fine-tune your temperature. If you're on a budget, the Lux model will work great.
The Ultra model has 16 smart programs, 21 preset temperatures, and allows for up to six hours of pressure cooking.
The Duo model has 14 smart programs, 12 preset temperatures, and allows for up to four hours of pressure cooking.
The LUX model has 12 smart programs, seven preset temperatures, and allows up to four hours of pressure cooking.
My Favorite Appliances
Here's a list of our other go-to appliances. These are workhorses that make make food preparation and cooking easier.
Countertop ovens are a versatile tool for making great (and fast!) meals. Breville ovens are the best; this model has nine settings: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat, and Warm.
While I've become a huge Instant Pot fan, slow cookers are still a great kitchen tool. The special features (programs, temperature probe, removable liner) make this one my favorite.
It slices! It dices! I can't believe how much easier cooking has become since I got a food processor! This model has a wide mouth so that you can fit large pieces of vegetables for slicing, chopping, and shredding.
This is THE kitchen mixer, available in a huge range of colors. The head tilts to make it easy to access the bowl, as well as the whisk, dough hook, or beater. The motor is powerful, and you can purchase attachments for the power hub.
I love this blender for its power and the heavy base means that it won't tip over while you're blending. It's amazing what a difference having a commercial-grade blender makes.
Feel like a smoothie? This hand blender has three interchangeable bell blades and a whisk attachment. It's great for making yourself a smoothie, as well as for blending soups right in the pot.
Cookware and Gadgets
You know what's frustrating? Chopping vegetables with dull knives, or trying to cook eggs on a beat-up frying pan. To enjoy cooking more, stock your kitchen with quality cookware.
Every paleo cook needs a cast iron skillet. This one has already been seasoned and is ready to use. Take care of it and it will last a lifetime. This model comes with a silicone handle holder.
This professional quality 10-piece cookware set includes: an 8 inch frying pan, a 10 inch frying pan, a 1.5 quart sauce pan with lid, a 3.5 quart sauce pan with lid, a 3 quart sauté pan with lid, and an 8 quart stockpot with lid.
Get an accurate temperature reading in just three seconds. The display works in either hand, displays in F and C, and is waterproof. It works for 3000 hours on a single AAA battery and is a Cooks Illustrated favorite. 10 colors available!
Quality knives make cooking so much easier. I love this three piece premier collection by Shun; it includes a four inch paring knife, a 6.5 inch utility knife, and an eight inch chef's knife. The knives are made of layered damascus steel with a hand-hammered finish.
Bamboo is the perfect surface for cutting boards—it's both sustainable and durable. This model looks great too, so you can use it for a serving tray when you're done with your food preparation.
The Spiralizer makes paleo cooking so much easier. Make “noodles” from your favorite vegetables. This model has seven interchangeable blades to accommodate vegetables of all sizes. It also includes a blade caddy for easy storage.
My Favorite Books
Books are one of my favorite tools for living a healthy lifestyle. These are the books that have inspired us, both with cooking and with building strong habits.
