Cocoa Espresso Almond Butter

Wow, so I have to say it has been really difficult traveling and living in a hotel room with a non working sink, no kitchen, and very FEW options to get any remotely Paleo food. And just as a reminder, I am only like 350 fans away on Facebook from starting another HUGE giveaway.  So spread the word, get your friends to like my page and then its on.  Oh yea and for the random fact of the day, it was 10 years ago today, I took my first steps on the yellow foot prints at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island to become a Marine.  That’s all, have an amazing day and enjoy this simple, delicious recipe.

Cocoa Espresso Almond Butter

Serves: 2
  1. Using a coffee grinder, grind your espresso
  2. Place your almonds whether raw or roasted into your Blendtec, food processor, or ninja and run until you get your nut butter consistency
  3. Next add in your cocoa powder and espresso and blend well
  4. If you would like to sweeten it a bit, add the honey and blend until well incorporated
  5. Also if you want it smoother while using raw almonds, like I said in the notes below you can add some coconut oil
  6. That's it, your all done. Now go use it on whatever your little heart desires
If you use raw almonds, they don't release as much oil so you will not get smooth creamy almond butter. If you prefer it smooth you can either roast your almonds on a cookie sheet at 350 for 10-12 minutes or add a few tbsp of melted coconut oil and blend well.

  1. I’ve made this before without the espresso, but today I tried this out. It’s super awesome (though I treated with store bought almond butter). next, you’re going to me telling me to put bacon in it!

  2. I have instant coffee packets I buy from Starbucks, would one of those work for the espresso? Each packet contains a little of one tablespoon of ground coffee.

  3. Oh My Goodness…this is DELICIOUS! I am on day 6 of the 21 DSD and I wanted to try out something different so I thought I would give this a try. I made mine without the honey and am currently enjoying it on my one green apple for the day. I WILL be making this again. Great recipe- thanks for all your awesome food inspirations!

OORAH on the 10 years of service!

  4. Looks and sounds tasty! Interesting tip about raw almonds and oil. Any idea why commercial raw almond butter is runny? The ingredients don’t list additional oil.

  5. I just made and posted about a java almond butter a couple weeks ago :) GOOD stuff, I ate a batch in a couple days eek. The blame it on my caffeine addiction ;)

  6. George thanks for your service and time and dedication to both the Marines and your site. I have really enjoyed your recipes and look forward to hopefully running into you at AHS! Keep on going!
